This tutorial combines a few of my favorite techniques: blending an image onto a background convincingly, and creating depth in your graphic.

Also...MatsuJun is a good actor. I'm quite impressed, and I really enjoy his dramas. Especially Bambino. And I even want to see "Boku no imouto ni koi o suru." >.>

I even included a mini-tutorial at the bottom, because I found a cool coloring effect that I'm pretty sure I haven't seen on the comms before. And it's so wonderfully easy. ^_^

thesilentsenshi has unintentionally prompted me to make one big post to house ALL my Yamapi icons.

I'm honestly embarrassed by how many there are.

( And there are actually even more than this on my computer. ^_^; )

I'm putting up my few 300 icons now. There aren't that many, simply because...the pictures are already so perfect, it's hard to come up with things to make them look better. XD Too great an endeavor for my lazy self.

Also, icon fashions amuse me. I remember three years ago, if you didn't have a border on your icons, you'd get talked down to about how much more professional it made them seem--no matter how beautiful your icons were. And now borders are definitely not required. In fact, when I see an icon with a blatant, one-pixel border (i.e. one that looks like an outline rather than an extension of the icon), I find myself thinking that it makes it look kind of childish. ^_^; Oh, how the times have changed.

I made a semi-matching set of icons for my Fun With Textures theme. ^_^

I even ( included Zechs! )

I actually like Zechs's the best. I put the first layer of him on soft light, so the floorboards and the bottle of vodka look shadowed. It's quite awesome, if I do say so myself. *preens*

It's times like this when I really wish I had a paid account with a shit ton of room for icons. *sigh* I just got Wufei on my list, and now I'm ready to move him off again! *pout*

I've been working on these for the past few days. I was waiting until I had more to post, but then I kind of hit a wall and just wanted to get them out for people to drool over/use/laugh at/whatever.

Today I want to show you how to go from this to this .

We'll use coloring, gradient, textures, and masks. Nothing too complicated, but a great outcome, I think.

I don't usually like to make a million icons with the exact same style or the same picture with a few details changed. I think it lacks creativity and artistry, and it isn't that interesting. The point of making icons is to have fun and challenge yourself, and how can you be challenging yourself if you're just doing the same six steps over and over? Besides, that gets boring really quickly, and it stops being fun, am I right?

However, I think I'm going to break my own rule a teensy bit, just this once. This photoshoot Yamapi did is way too gorgeous to pass up.

Since I'm probably going to start posting my icons in public forums now more than just keeping them to my own journal, I'm going to make this reference post for my images, brushes, textures, etc.

The ones I can remember, anyway. >.> For a few years I didn't bother, since I knew I was the only one who was going to be using them, but I promise I'll do better from now on. ^_^;

I don't normally make different versions of icons or use the same pic more than once, but these were just too adorable to pass up.

It's kind of sad, because I really did a lot of work on the second one with selective color and a burn layer, and it looks almost exactly like the original--just marginally more awesome. ^_^; I guess that's what Photoshop is all about.

Also, when I had to walk across campus to run errands today, my shoes gave my little toe a BLISTER OF DOOM AND DESTRUCTION. ;_; It hurts. And we have no salve. My roomie keeps telling me to put rubbing alcohol on it. o.o Nothxplz. If only we had salve... *sobs quietly*
